Simplification: Modifications to Medical Data Code Set Standards To Adopt
ICD10CM and ICD10PCS
The document specifies that the implementation date of
the tenth International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) will be delayed until
October 1, 2013 and responds to comments submitted about the
transition timeline.
Originally in August 2008, when the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services proposed shifting to
the newest version, the implementation date was October 1, 2011. However,
most comments submitted in response to the proposed rule said the
industry would need more time for an effective industry-wide
implementation.
