Sex Offenders & Sexually Violent Predators, Punishment, Residence
Restrictions & Monitoring Initiative Statute
California voters approved Proposition 83, also known as Jessica's
Law, which implements changes to how the state penalizes and
monitors sex offenders. The legislation increases penalties for
violent and habitual sex offenders and child molesters. Other
changes include:

Registered sex offenders may not live within 2,000 feet of a
school or park

Felony registered sex offenders will be monitored by Global
Positioning System technology for life

Sexually violent offenders may be involuntarily committed to
treatment for an indeterminate length of time
