ShareNew Jersey Assembly Bill 1673: A Plan to Rebalance State Resources to Provide Community Services & Supports for Persons With Developmental Disabilities

The New Jersey legislature is considering this proposal to rebalance the state system of developmental disability services. Key provisions will close five of the state's seven developmental centers and expand community-based housing and related support services. If adopted, 80% of the residents at the developmental centers would transition to community living settings within five years. Two centers would remain open to serve the northern and southern parts of the state. However, specifics about how and where new community living facilities would be created have not been disclosed.
