New Jersey Department of Banking & Insurance Guidance to Carriers on Implementing Autism Treatment Coverage

In its early guidance to health insurance carriers on January 14, 2010, the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance (DOBI) noted that although the law specified that treatment for Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) would be capped at $36,000 per calendar year, the implementation of the federal Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 will prohibit the state from enforcing this clause of the law. This document also provides other guidance for carriers about aspects of the new autism coverage.
