The Concentration and Persistence in the Level of Health Expenditures over Time: Estimates for the U.S. Population, 2008-2009

In January 2012, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) published a statistical brief that provides detailed estimates of the persistence in the level of health care expenditures over time. The data was obtained from the Household Component of the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS –HC) for 2008 and 2009. According to the brief, in both 2008 and 2009, the top 5 percent of the population accounted for nearly 50 percent of health care expenditures.
