Drug Abuse Warning Network, 2006: National
Estimates of Drug-Related Emergency Department Visits
This publication presents estimates of drug-related emergency department
(ED) visits from the Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) for 2006, with
comparison of estimates for 2004 and 2005. DAWN is a public health
surveillance system that monitors drug-related ED visits for the Nation
and for selected metropolitan areas. The Office of Applied Studies (OAS)
of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA),
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has been responsible for
DAWN operations since 1992.
