Final Notice Medicaid Program: Initial Core Set of Health Care Quality Measures for Medicaid-Eligible Adults

On January 4, 2012, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)issued a final notice that announces the initial core set of health care quality measures for Medicaid-eligible adults. The core set consist of 26 measures that cover areas such as prevention, health promotion and acute-and chronic condition management. State Medicaid agencies can voluntarily use the initial core set and by September 2012, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will release technical specifications for states that seek to voluntarily collect and report the initial core set of value. As required under the Affordable Care Act, the secretary of HHS will collect, analyze and make publicly available information reported by the states, no later than September 30, 2014.
