January 2007

Share2007 Physician Voluntary Reporting Program Physician Quality Measures

This is a list of 44 procedures that will become part of the quality reporting program as of January 1, 2007. It also includes 20 more procedures that are expected to be effective after January 2007.

Physicians providing care to Medicare beneficiaries can qualify for a 1.5% bonus in the second half of 2007 if they report data on the quality of care they provide, using measures specified by the government. Currently the reporting will simply allow physicians to report how often they perform specific types of tasks that are related to quality of care. The measures reflect current best-practices guidelines for specific conditions, but the reporting form allows physicians to state reasons, such as patient objection, why the guidelines were not followed in specific instances.
