 Should the DMR Change its Name?
In 2006, the Connecticut legislature passed Public Act (PA)
06-92, An Act Concerning the Department of Mental Retardation (DMR)."
The legislation instructed the DMR to solicit comments about the idea of a
departmental name change from people receiving services provided by the
department.
Based on interviews with stakeholders, DMR recommends
that the legislature change the department name to the Department of
Developmental Services. The legislature now has DMR's report on the
matter and legislators will vote on the recommendation.
