![]() Welcome to 2010 OPEN MINDS Institute for Behavioral Health Informatics Virtual Exhibit Hall! Institute 'Buzz Tracker' Recap: (10/11/10 - 11:50am) This year's institute for Behavioral Health Informatics is closing with an information-packed presentation by Monica E. Oss, Chief Executive Officer, OPEN MINDS, titled "Technology As The Driver of Competitive Advantage in Behavioral Health & Social Services: The Technologies That Will Determine the “Winners” In The New Normal." (10/11/10 - 11:10am) A wonderful session on "Developing a Profitable E-Health Practice" just concluded. Lots of great questions and conversations during and after that presentation... Now we shift to the exhibit hall to announce the winners of our prize raffles! (10/11/10 - 9:45am) UNI/Care Systems and Microsoft just wrapped up their much anticipated morning session, "Technology Partnerships As A Tactic To Build Competitive Advantage—Using Collaborations with Technology Firms Enhance Client Solutions." In this session our speakers discussed the collaborative strategy developed between UNI/CARE and Microsoft to leverage the current market environment. *Special thank you to Clark Hill for sponsoring the wonderful networking reception last night in the exhibit hall. A perfect way to end day one. (10/11/10 - 5:32pm) "The State Perspective: A Strategy for EMR Deployment & Technology Adoption" just ended and was our last keynote address on day one. Hao Wang, Ph.D., Deputy Commissioner & Chief Information Officer, New York State Office of Mental Health, took center stage as he put a popular science touch on the issues of informatics, Electronic Health Record, EMR selection and implementation, Return on Investment (ROI), and health data sharing. (10/11/10 - 4:47pm) Mark A. Rothstein, J.D., Herbert F. Boehl Chair of Law & Medicine, Director, Institute for Bioethics, Health Policy and Law, University of Louisville School of Medicine, just wrapped up a very informative keynote address on "Privacy, Portability, & the Future of Personal Health Records." There was plenty of discussion about the concerns on how PHRs can be effectively implemented, especially in behavioral health care, where patient privacy is a critical issue. For more on this topic, check out the recent intelligence update e-mail, "Taming the PHR", by John F. Talbot, Ph.D., Executive Vice President, OPEN MINDS. (10/11/10 - 2:05pm) We're back from the lunch break and a lot of institute buzz is surrounding the session hosted by Kevin Scalia, Executive Vice President, Netsmart Technologies. Mr. Scalia's presentation "Increasing the ROI of Your EHR: Improving Efficiencies, Getting More ARRA Dollars, & Beyond" has a packed room with plenty of Q & A going on. If you weren't able to attend (and you're a Premium Circle member) check out their article on this topic from October's OPEN MINDS Newsletter! (10/11/10 - 12:56pm) In a very thought provoking session, Patrick Henry, Senior Director of Consumer Advocacy, Mental Health America, just shared his experiences with social media networking as well as the therapeutic advantages it has for mental health patients to connect with other individuals. (10/11/10 - 11:56am) Continuing our theme from earlier, the "Meaning of Meaningful Use" session, sponsored by Qualifacts Systems is standing room only. Gregg Boyle, Chief Technology Officer, Qualifacts, is informing hundreds of attendees on the specifics of "meaningful use" and what an "eligible provider" is. *Special thank you to all of our wonderful sponsors and exhibitors this year. Please take a moment to take a look at the virtual exhibits located on the left side of this page (click the logos). (10/11/10 - 11:09am) We ran out of seating in the "Keeping Up With The Feds - An Executive Update on Meaningful Use, EHR Certification, Parity Legislation, and More" session... No surprise there as "Meaningful Use" has become the hot topic of discussion this morning. (10/11/10 - 9:37am) The opening keynote address, "New Frontiers for Technology: The Payer Perspective" just wrapped up. Very interesting topics presented by our speakers from OptumHealth Behavioral Solutions and The National Institute of Mental Health. Also, A special thank-you to UNI/CARE for sponsoring this session... *Many speaker presentations are available for download on the Institute Presentations page. The rest will be posted at the conclusion of the institute. (10/11/10 - 8:30am) Welcome to our live coverage of this year's institute.
