Karla McFarland, M.B.A., OPEN MINDS Advisory Board Member, is currently the Interim Chief Executive Officer and Vice President of Medical Services of Planned Parenthood of Delaware (PPDE). In her role as CEO, Mrs. McFarland
manages the public affairs, education, development, administration, and finance departments. As Vice President of the Medical Services Department, she is responsible for the operations of the
organization's five medical centers located throughout the state.
With 15 years of management experience in the human services field, Mrs. McFarland has worked in both non-profit and for profit agencies. She has extensive experience in behavioral health and
social services management. She has worked with developmentally disabled and dually diagnosed adults for several companies including the Devereux Foundation. She worked as a program director
for ReMed Recovery Care of their behavioral development program, working with adults in a post-acute head injury residential rehabilitation. In addition to experience in management and operations,
Mrs. McFarland has a wealth of direct clinical experience, which includes serving as a behavior consultant and writing care plans. In addition, she has experience in strategic planning, budgeting, risk and
quality management, numerous accreditation and licensing agencies and processes, operations systems development and implementation, grant writing, and human resource issues. Staff recruitment,
development, and retention are other strength areas.
Mrs. McFarland has served as a staff trainer in each position she has held. Training topics have included: American Red Cross CPR/ First Aid, Medication Administration, Ethical Issues, Behavior plans, Positive Approaches, OSHA, CLIA, and crisis prevention/ intervention. Mrs. McFarland has extensive experience training entry and mid level managers on all management topics. Mrs. McFarland earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in psychology from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. She earned her Masters in Business Administration from West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
