John Heffner, OPEN MINDS Advisory Board Member & Chief Executive Officer, SemperCare Hospital of Savannah, is a senior executive in the field with a wealth of experience in hospital system feasibility analysis and hospital management. He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of SemperCare Hospital of Savannah, a 40-bed long-term acute care hospital. Mr. Heffner has been responsible from the start-up phase through the day-to-day operations, including recruiting and orienting staff, securing the hospital and pharmacy licenses, and credentialing the medical staff.

Prior to his work at SemperCare, Mr. Heffner served as Chief Executive Officer and Area Administrator – Kansas Region, of Mid America Rehabilitation Hospital in Kansas City; was chief operating officer of APS Healthcare; and vice president of development for D.C.-based Specialty Hospital Group. He has managed certificate-of-need applications; developed strategic plans, market analysis, and budgets for a variety of inpatient programs; and restructured hospital system design to improve profitability and performance. Mr. Heffner began his career as a Project Analyst for the North Carolina Medical Care Commission.

Mr. Heffner received his Bachelor of Philosophy degree in interdisciplinary studies from Miami University, and his Master's degree in health care administration from the University of Cincinnati.
